The last couple of years have been challenging & unsettling in so many ways for so many of us, and LuluShells has been my personal refuge, my safe and happy place. I’ve always loved the beach. My favorite things to do are to take long walks on the sand, get my feet wet, breathe in the salt air, and collect shells. I have jars of shells from practically every beach I’ve been to.
About a year ago, my sweet dog, Chloe and I made our way to our usual beach for our early morning walk. When we arrived, what laid before us was a spectacle I will never forget. The number of shells on the beach that morning was breathtaking. Shimmering, glistening in the early morning light, what spread out before us was nothing short of a bountiful treasure. And that was the beginning of LuluShells!
Inspired by the beauty and uniqueness of each shell, I started painting them. At first, I painted and decorated them for myself, quickly filling the house with colorful shells of every size and shape. Then I started giving them to my family and friends, who were always so complimentary and enthusiastic about my designs. It was their genuine encouragement that motivated me to learn new ways of decorating them, and I eventually discovered the art of decoupage. Most LuluShells are decoupaged and painted, some are entirely hand-painted, and all are a labour of love. I see each shell as a little canvas, an invitation to create something pretty, something that will hopefully bring a little love and cheer to its new home.
